City: Amsterdam below London, Paris, Rome in cost-of-living rankings
Monday, July 19th 2010Amsterdam has been ranked as the 35th most expensive place to live in the world for expatriates in the Mercer Cost of Living Survey 2010, down from 29th place in 2009.
The survey compares the cost of 200 items, including housing, transport, food, clothing and household goods, in 214 cities around the world. New York is used as the base city for the index and all currency calculations are based against the dollar. Luanda in Angola was rated the most expensive, followed by Tokyo, Ndjamena in Chad, Moscow and Geneva.
