Accommodation: Amsterdam benefits for city employees
Tuesday, February 9th 2010Amsterdam city council spent over €1.5 million in 2009 on benefit payments to former employees, reports Dutch News online.
The special benefits, reserved only for former politicians, can pay more than 70 per cent of an employee’s final salary for up to six years, regardless of whether they resign or lose their job.
Amsterdam’s 2009 payments were made to 32 former council executive board members, who each received an average of €52,000. The overall figure paid out in benefits by the city council is likely to rise even higher in 2010 with the merger of Amsterdam’s 14 borough councils into seven and the expected loss of further jobs, says Dutch News. Information on the payments was obtained by television news channel AT5.
